Story Pot Assignment : Case of Bananas (2024)
A lighthearted narrative about a forest detective finding an egregious pile of fruit, "Case of Bananas" is a playfully absurdist piece that parallels the many books I read as a child that centered around young and determined heroines. Similar to book series such as "Madeline" by Ludwig Bemelmans, "Olivia" by Ian Falconer, and "Pinkalicious" by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann that exhibit their titular characters navigating their own worlds, this sculpture is heavily inspired by such storylines. This nostalgically driven piece is motivated by my fascination of being able to vicariously live through these characters by reading into their illustrative descriptions and imagery as a child that I revisit as an adult.
